The plant history dates back to the
year of 1913 when the owner Petr
Vichr looked for a suitable location
to build a new factory, since the
actual place of business in Duchcov
allowed no further enlargement of
the plant. Lysá nad Labem seemed to
be the right place in regard of
railway communication and closeness
to Prague .
The delivery and assembly of power
equipment and machinery started at
the beginning of
1914. In the
deep of this work the World War
broke out. The activities were
interrupted but already at the end
of 1914 the factory was put into
operation. At first it was
manufacture of small household
equipment – shovels, racks, pot lids
and also metal furniture. Later the
factory switched over to war
production and manufactured great
numbers of army hospital beds. After
the war the factory was converted
back to the original production.
More expensive goods were
manufactured – chrome-plated
furniture, home furniture with
wooden accessories, varnished
hospital and school furniture,
kitchen scales and, later on, office
furniture.
In 1938 the enterprise changed into
a joint stock company with
retrospective force since 1935. The
entire stocks remained however at
the property of the same owners. At
that time the enterprise with its
plants in Lysá nad Labem and in
Duchcov belonged to the biggest in
its field in Czechoslovakia and employed 700-800
employees.
In 1939 the head-office changed its
seat from Prague to Lysá nad Labem. The World War II
converted the plant to war
production, again. The protectoral
mint was organized in Lysá nad Labem.
In May 1945 the national
administration was imposed on Vichr
and Co. as well as on the most of
large enterprises – till 1946, when
the enterprise was nationalized and
the national enterprise KOVONA was
established. Based on the second
stage of nationalization and
reorganization of industry some
changes took place with the purpose
of concentration of manufacture of
metal furniture and related products
within one enterprise. The
enterprise comprised the former
plants of Vichr and Co., the joint
stock company in Lysá nad Labem, the
Mück-Melder plants and the factories
producing metal furniture in
Fryštát.
In 1948 the enterprise incorporated
several eminent plants in the field
of metal furniture and related
products: the factory 03 Hynek
Gottwald in
Brandýs nad Orlicí,
04 Františk Jergl in Brno, 05 Robert
Slezák in Bystřice pod Hostýnem, 06
Trezoria Praha -Jinonice, 07 SAB
Praha VI, 09 Robert Slezák Vysoká n.
Kysucou.
That concentrated production of
metal furniture practically into one
productive-organizational unit.
Furthermore, the national enterprise
Radovan Mělník that produced and
repaired child carriages was fused
with its affiliated plants.
In 1950 the organizational structure
of the enterprise changed. The
enterprise was divided into smaller
units; a newly established national
enterprise Kovona in Lysá nad Labem
was assigned as a continuator and
assumed the claims and liabilities
of individual plants as well as the
duties of the enterprise management
in
Prague . The
production of metal furniture was
divided as follows: 1. Kovona
national enterprise in Lysa nad
Labem with affiliated plants: 03
Brandýs n. O., Brno , 06 Jinonice, 07
Prague VII, 08 Hostivař. 2. Kovona
national enterprise in Karviná with
affiliated plants: 05 Bystřice p
.H., 09 Vysoká n. Kys. 3. Liberta
national enterprise in Mělník with
affiliated plants 14 Třebíč, 24
Vojkovice, 15 Heřmanův Městec, 11
Litomyšl, 16 Počátky, 33 Malacky. 4.
Factories for child carriages in
Duchcov with affiliated plants 16 in Pilsen, 19 Kašperské hory, 25
Varnsdorf.
In 1950 the head office returned to
Lysá n. L. and the enterprise
incorporated the confiscated company
F. Adam – a factory for gymnastic
apparatus in Prague - Kunratice. A year
after the former factory Vacek, and,
later, Agrostroj were assigned as
plant 02. These assignments created
larger production areas and allowed
to transfer to Lysá n. L. the
production from the affiliated
plants in Jinonice, Hostivař and
Prague VII.
Further changes took place from 1956
to 1960 and were finished by the
organization of: national
enterprise, the enterprise head
office in Lysá nad Labem, plant 01
Lysá n.L. - workshop Stříbro, plant
02 Bystřice p.Hostýnem with the
plant in Lichnov and plant 03 Zábřeh
na Moravě. The plant in Stříbro was
cancelled and a new plant in Říčany
u Prahy was organized. The national
enterprise was changed into a state
enterprise and was set for
privatization process. In 1991
KOVONA LBZ Lysá n.L. was established
by the resolution of the Minister of
Industry; the state enterprise was
cancelled without liquidation and
the entire assets were assigned
including all rights and
obligations.
The head office in Lysá nad Labem
manages the main plant and the
activities of the joint-stock
company as a legal subject. The
plant manufactures mainly metal
cabinet furniture and safety
technique. The plant in Bystřice pod
Hostýnem with the worshop in Lichnov
manufactures metal seating
furniture. Zábřeh na Moravě produces
spring frames, bellows and spring
units for furniture production.
By the end of 1991 the enterprise
management worked out a
privatization project which was
discussed and recommended by the
Ministry of Industry of the Czech
Republic and was submitted for the
approval to the Ministry of
Administration of the National
Property and Privatisation. In March
1992 the project was approved and
the resolution of approval of
privatization project was issued.
The property for restitution was
settled and sold to the company
KOVONAX s.r.o. in Bystřice pod
Hostýnem; and the assets of the
plant in Zábřeh na Moravě were sold
to the company M.K.R. Plus s.r.o.,
Krnov. On the basis of this decision
the administration body of the
joint-stock company was changed. The
former Board of Directors and the
Advisory Board resigned in
compliance with the Joint Memorandum
by the National Property Fund and
the representatives of investment
funds and companies and with the
subsequent mandatory agreement in
right of the funds owning over 70%
of the total assets of the
joint-stock company KOVONA Lysá nad
Labem.
